Hindus Persecuted in Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s political landscape underwent a seismic shift on August 5, 2024, with the change of government leadership. One of the consequences of this change has been a heightened level of Hindus living in Bangladesh being persecuted. This has led to the arrest of several leaders of the Hindu minority and the subsequent protest by the Hindu community. One of those arrested was Chinmoy Krishna Das, a leader of the Hindus there and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh. Clashes have since intensified. On November 26, 2024, assistant public prosecutor Saiful Islam was killed during clashes between the security personnel and followers of the Hindu leader. Chinmoy Krishna das was denied bail and sent to jail by a Chittagong court. |
Recent news update on Chinmoy Krishna Das
Chinmoy Krishna Das remains incarcerated in a Bangladesh prison and has been denied bail. I think this quote is appropriate: First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. —Martin Niemöller |
